Reconnection: Is the Ford Transit Connect coming back in 2025?

According to insiders who reported on the recent Ford Dealer meeting, Ford showed off a compact van based on the Ford Maverick small truck platform, which is also used for the Ford Bronco Sport.
This would be a return to the original 3rd Gen strategy announced in 2019 which was to move production to Mexico from Valencia for a 2021 launch. This plan relied on using the existing plant in Hermosillo within the NAFTA /USMCA trade zone, saving the tariffs on importing trucks. That plan crumbled during COVID, and Ford launched a new European Transit Connect working with VW., while keeping the 2nd Gen in production for the USA through 2023, and discontinuing it for 2024.
In 2019, the 3rd Gen was well into the design cycle, and while AWD was definitely not in the mix, there was a hybrid version. Let's hope that if we get another small van again we get both the hybrid and AWD versions that are part of the Maverick package.
